- American Odds
- Odds displayed as a positive or negative number, showing how much you win on a $100 bet or how much you must stake to win $100.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap system that eliminates the draw outcome by giving a half-goal or quarter-goal advantage to the underdog.
- Back
- To place a bet on a particular outcome, expecting it to happen.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for placing bets.
- Bet Slip
- The electronic record that lists the selections, odds, and stake for a bet.
- Cash Out
- An option to settle a bet before the match ends, either locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Closing Line
- The final odds offered just before a match starts, considered the most accurate reflection of market sentiment.
- Decimal Odds
- Odds expressed as a single number that includes the stake, used to calculate total returns.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds shown as a fraction, indicating the profit relative to the stake.
- Juice
- The commission that the sportsbook takes on a bet, usually built into the odds.
- Lay
- To act as the bookmaker, offering odds and accepting bets against a certain outcome.
- Line Movement
- Changes in the point spread or odds as more bets are placed or new information becomes available.
- Live Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is in progress, with odds that update as the game unfolds.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win the match, with odds shown as a positive or negative number.
- Odds
- The numerical expression of how likely an outcome is, also indicating the potential payout.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be higher or lower than a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet that links together two or more individual wagers, and all must win for the parlay to pay out.
- Point Spread
- A handicap given to each team to make the outcome more even, requiring the favorite to win by a certain margin or the underdog to avoid losing by that margin.
- Prop Bet
- A side bet on a specific event within a match, such as which player scores first or how many yellow cards are given.
- Sportsbook
- A platform or establishment that accepts bets on sporting events.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a particular bet.
- Unit
- A standard measurement of the size of a bet, often a percentage of your bankroll.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, suggesting an edge.
